Assata Shakur, who is also known as Joanne Chesimard, lives in Cuba and largely keeps a low profile. In 1977, she was convicted for the killing of a New Jersey police officer, which took place in 1973. She broke out of prison in 1979, and found her way to Cuba, where she has been since.
