Jagger had been closely tracked by local football fans. He had become unpopular after what he had said in places such as Portugal and the USA.
What was the reason for his unpopularity?

Jagger had become notorious for backing teams at the World Cup which would then go on to lose (he had praised Portugal & USA during tours there) and putting a 'jinx' on them, in the eyes of superstitious football fans. Brazilians didn't want Jagger to support their team (he has a son who is Brazilian).
