Why is this photo of American President Obama, taken during a visit to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, in the US, significant? (the visit was in April 2012)

The bus he is sitting in is an integral part of the civil rights movement in the USA. In 1955 (when blacks were segregated from whites and given lesser status), a lady named Rosa Parks refused to vacate her seat in this bus for a white passenger. This act inspired many others in their struggle. More on this episode here.
