In early 2013, the New York Times reported that some upscale New York restaurants (such as
Momofuku Ko and
Chef's Table have begun banning this in their restaurants. This has led to a lot of comment, especially in social media, in food circles in the US and Europe.
A catch portmanteau has also been coined, yoking the word "food" to the name of an iPhone app.
So what's the fuss about, and what's the portmanteau word?

These restaurants ban customers from taking photos of their food, claiming that this disturbs other patrons and also has the tendency to take pictures that show the food in bad light (pun intended). "Foodstagram" is the portmanteau. Read these:
