To commemorate its fiftieth anniversary, BBC Wildlife magazine ran a poll in its June 2013 issue to choose a "national species" that could serve as a "wildlife icon" for Britain.


If the badger came second, and the oak tree came third (other losers being the likes of the lady bird, the otter, and the robin), which literally not-so-cuddly species won?
