Soldier-turned-politician Ariel Sharon was one of the most controversial leaders to have emerged from Israel. The former Prime Minister died in January 2014 after being in a coma for eight years ; his death was 'greeted' in Palestine, where he was deeply unpopular.

Such was the hatred for him that for many years, a household product was the subject of boycotts in many parts of the Middle East, with some groups asking people to shun it because it was supposedly named after him.
